Just Wondering

Do you think Gavin Rossdale ever wakes up and says to himself, "Gee, I'm really tired of seeing Gwen Stefani's naked body next to me."

Yeah. I don't either.

In a somewhat related note, in that we're dealing with pop music in both cases, when I was a wee small lad growing up, the hottest show for the 8th grade girls to watch was General Hospital. And this was largely because of one Rick Springfield, and also becuase it allowed them to fantasize that if they were ever raped in a roller rink, they could grow up to marry the rapist. Thank you Luke and Laura for that lesson. Anyway, Rick Springfield managed to parlay his good looks into a pop music "career" of a couple of albums. I heard one of the hits this morning on the way into work, one "Jessie's Girl." Feeling nostalgic, I kept the station on. And I came to one conclusion. That song sucked. And still sucks. And will always suck. A few months ago, Rick played a concert at our local casino. My wife, who is a General Hospital fan to the same extent that the Pope is sort of Catholic, wanted to go. I agreed to buy two tickets, on one condition.

Her: "What's the condition?" (No doubt thinking she was going to have to wear the nurse's uniform again)

Me: "You take someone else."

The fact that you know about the whole Luke and Laura saga is hilarious.

That was a good song btw, it brings back good memories for me. My husband thinks Gwen is perfection.

Gwen IS effin hot, even tho she does sound like a 5 year old when she sings.

I haven't thought about Luke & Laura in AGES. I remember their fairytale wedding, as well as the whole roller rink thing. That show went WAY downhill after they had Laura go crazy.

And OH YES I was infatuated with Rick Springfield.

Rick never did much for me...too much of a "pretty boy". I had a thing for Tom Selleck/Magnum P.I. (YUM!)

I didn't watch General Hospital either...what rock was I living under?!?!?

I always interpreted "Jessie's Girl" to be a sort of call to arms in the girlfriend army. In other words, a girlfriend's mission was clearly to be the girl that all of the boyfriend's buddies would want to date, and in that way, make the boyfriend feel good about himself for dating you. Hey, I don't make this stuff up, I just report it.

Once again, I missed out. I saw a little "General Hospital" just out of curiosity, but I missed out on the whole Luke and Laura thing. I can't believe she married her rapist. He should have had his... hands cut off.

This is something I have never, ever admitted in the blogosphere, and maybe you don't want to know it, but here goes:

In the summers, when I was a teen, I used to watch "The Young and the Restless" followed by "The Bold and the Beautiful." That was 90 minutes a day I'll never get back. The one sweet thing that came out of all of it was my youngest brother calling the shows "So-barbers."

Hey ~ That's a pretty good compromise...she gets to made her happy enough to give you a blow job. Life in the Limpy household is good!

I never thought Luke was good enough for Laura.

Do you remember The Jaggs with their one hit wonder: I Got Your Number (written on the back of my hand...)

I think I bought that album cuz the singer reminded me of Elvis Costello.

Roller rinks and rapists.

The fantasy of prepubescent girls everywhere.

I still have nightmares about Luke's hair.

A group of us 8th graders bought tickets to Rick Springfield and actually talked one of the fathers into driving us 200 MILES to the concert.
I should send that guy flowers or kick in for his rehabilitation...
