Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

Or smart-ass 9 year olds. Whichever.

We're driving home from the pool last night. I am knocking down snack suggestions left and right and responding with my own offers of fruit and/or vegetables, since there's no way we're letting the kids get sugar after 8:30 pm. From the back seat my son issues the foloowing proclamation:

"From now on, if it isn't going to rot my teeth, I'm not going to eat it"

For the records he got carrots for a snack, but as I was leaving for work this morning he was making up for lost time and shoveling a hot fudge sundae Pop-Tart down his gullett.

On a different note, I saw "The Simpsons" movie this weekend. I highly recommend it. That is all.

Pop Tarts piss me off anymore. The new flavors are disgusting. You use to get your daily allowance of fruit from them, now my kids won't eat the fruit ones. Only the Hot Fudge Sunday, Mint Chocolate Chip, Smores. And the whole "Put me in the freezer" campaign is just wrong. They've totally taken the "pop" out of Pop Tarts. They don't "pop" out of the freezer.

Thanks for the Simpson's recommendation.

K, obviously I haven't purchased Pop Tarts in a while. Hot Fudge Sundae?!?!?! My husband must never know about those. EVER.

Pop tarts are the most bestest. A wholesome nutrious food rolled into a sugary candy coating called breakfast!
or dinner
or lunch
or a snack.

I like the brown sugar and cinnamon nuked in the microwave for about 15 seconds. That way the top and the bottom layers separate leaving me with 4 pop tarts for the price of two. Awesomeness.

Go Tarts, baby - come on. Kellogg's is genius to come up with this variation. I hate when a Pop Tart breaks and crumbles and you always have to eat both of 'em cuz that foil they come in is really good for nothing. Go Tarts are the perfect snack food. Don't knock 'em 'til you've tried 'em.

Nonny, seriously, go see the Simpsons. I laughed out loud many, many times.

Tysgirl, you, uh, do know that your husband reads this horrible little blog don't you?

PG, I'm going to go home and nuke a hot fudge sundae one and see what happens.

Monk, I have never heard of Go-Tarts. Sounds like a Gogurt rip-off to me.

the hot fudge ones don't nuke well. They become all melty and gooey....that isn't a bad thing, but you won't get four for the price of two. You will get pieces of 8 for the price of two and some burned fingertips.

Hey. I know my pop tarts. Some would say I'm a pop tart.
..
....

.....

Why are they called Pop Tarts?

...oh, p'roly cause they "pop" up from the toaster and are "tarts"..so what are they called if you nuke them?

oh yeah. A sugary coated breakfast treat.

See, no homework for you. I answered all of my own questions.

Seriously, that's a flavor for Pop Tarts? Wow. I've been out of the loop on those for awhile now, I guess. I used to like the Brown Sugar ones (but only after I'd been drinking heavily).

They kept advertising that Simpsons movie on our flights to and from Florida. In fact, they had an entire channel dedicated to the Simpsons.

I spent the 11 (horrible) hours (5.5 hrs. each way) flipping between HGTV, the Food Network and Animal Planet. Occasionally, I'd sneak a peek between the seats and noticed that the kid in front of me watched the Simpsons the ENTIRE flight.

I have kids singing, "Spider Pig, Spider Pig" already. I'm not taking them to the movie or anywhere near it. Ugh!

He'll change his tune when he gets his first taste of pus... uh, never mind. That's probably inappropriate.

He's probably too old for the reverse psychology. I used to be able to tell the kids there was NO WAY they were ever going to get any more milk because I wanted them to stay as tiny as they were as 4 & 5 year olds & NEVER grow up to be tall like me. It worked every time on Jake. Elle was too damn smart & told me fine.

Hot Fudge Sundae pop-tarts??? Thank gawd they don't sell those at Costco! If it isn't available at Costco, it doesn't exist. That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

Geez! I remember when Pop Tarts first came out when I was in elementary school back in the 60's.

They were tasty then. ;-)

I saw 'No Reservations' this weekend.

my recommendation: wait for the video

Kids are so funny sometimes!

I can't stand pop-tarts anymore. Give me an omlette any day.

I can't wait to see the Simpsons movie! Thanks for the tip!

PG, let's not be sneaking in any "inner dorkings" here. This is a family blog.

I can't believe I didn't burst into flames while typing that sentence.

Soozieq, while I do love me some Nigella Lawson, that kid made the better choice.

Maggie, when that song came on in the movie, 3/4 of the theater started singing along. It was pretty funny.

Rhonda, but I'll bet your eyesight is terrible!

Syd, you and I are going to have some kind of fun when we wind up in hell together.

Rat, I have two Elles. Believe me I've tried.

Eclectic, I'm sure Costco has them; they're just buried behind the 15 gallon tubs of Cool Whip.

BP, odd, my suggestion on that movie was "never, ever watch that"

LK, I'd go the omellette route as well. I hate Pop Tarts. They remind me of nothing so much as cardboard.

When I was four or five, I asked for a drink of water before bed, and my mom said no. She said, "If you drink water before bed, you're going to pee all night."

My response: "I WANT to pee all night."

The family never let me forget that one.
