Things That Make You Go 'Hmmmm'
Reading the paper today I came across an article about how the army is, (again), lowering standards for recruits in order to meet their quotas. Putting aside the political ramifcations of this, what I found most interesting is that the military is no longer DQ'ing people for having prior records for things like fighting or carrying weapons to school. And I thought, "Wait, before this the military was disqualifying the aggresive guys who were familiar with weapons?"

You're right. "Hmmmm."
I guess they want to turn the recruits into aggressive guys who are familiar with firearms. Maybe the ones who are already there can't be indoctrinated properly.
That would DQ everybody I know.
So you are saying that if I have beat up my friends, and/or shoot them, then I can't get an Ice Cream Sunday any longer?
Man... I was really, looking forward to that Peanut Buster Parfait.

Great, maybe now I can finally get my inlaws enlisted and sent off to war.
You're just bitter from when they turned you down. Let it go, Limpy. Let it go.
lowering their standards....also offering big bonuses to get people to sign up and/or stay in..... hmmmmm
The military does this periodically. During the Vietnam War there was
McNamara’s Hundred Thousand, 100,000 dudes drafted even though they didn’t meet the minimum standards for the army. As an officer, it seemed to me that at least 500 of those dudes where assigned to my battalion.
I'm all for letting them in except there have been stories in the papers here about how lots of the Mexican Mafia guys join up just to learn how to use all the high powers machine guns & then of course, they smuggle them back somehow & unleash them on the streets to kill other gangs & innocent bystanders.
